GTP has been gold plating tungsten and molybdenum wire for nearly 40 years. Gold plated wire is used in a number of applications including electronics, medical and aerospace. GTP has the capability to plate base wire – tungsten and molybdenum – ranging in size from 0.025 to 0.625 millimeters. Plating percentages can range from 1% to 25% with a standard tolerance of +/- 1%. Plating tungsten and molybdenum wire enhances properties and performance of the base metal by improving electrical conductivity and wettability for soldering and providing resistance to oxidation.
Gold Plated Tungsten & Molybdenum Wire
Gold Plated Tungsten Wire
The density of gold (19.3 g/cm3) and tungsten (19.25 g/cm3) are very similar meaning plating tungsten will not significantly change the density versus unplated wire.
Gold also has a much lower melting point than tungsten so the temperature of your application should be considered. Gold plated tungsten wire is frequently used in medical, electronics and printing applications.
Gold Plated Molybdenum Wire
Gold plated molybdenum wire offers a few advantages versus gold plated tungsten wire. Gold plated molybdenum wire is lighter than tungsten and more ductile. The ductility of molybdenum wire allows it to be woven and used in specific applications like antennae on satellites. Like tungsten wire, gold plated molybdenum wire is used in the medical and electronics industries.
